Fire Equipment Catalogue (PDF)

Type of Extinguishes Chart (PDF)

Type of Equipment
The appropriate type of fire extinguisher or fire blanket should be located in the area of the hazard. Dry Powder extinguishers are able to be used on most types of fire, CO2 extinguishers work well on electrical fires (and are often located near switchboards), and Foam extinguishers are appropriate for flammable liquids (so you will normally find them in car parks).

SOS can also arrange the supply and installation of Hose Reels and signage for all equipment.

Location

Extinguishers and fire blankets should be located according to AS2444. Extinguishers should be located near an exit, where fire cannot cut off your escape. Fire Blankets should be located in kitchens, near an exit, to allow easy evacuation if fire becomes too big. Never keep an extinguisher or fire blanket too close to the hazard, as you won't be able to access it when required.

Maintenance

Extinguishers and fire blankets must be serviced every 6 months to comply with AS1851.1. SOS can arrange for all safety equipment to be serviced to ensure your organization complies with relevant legislation and standards. We can also arrange for your used extinguishers to be tested and filled.
